Anees joined the Sport Business team at Liverpool John Moores University as a lecturer in 2018. This comes holding an academic position at London Metropolitan University as maternity cover in 2017 for the Sport Management course. Prior to this Anees graduated with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Essex in 2011. However, a change of path led him to complete an MA in Sport Management at London Metropolitan University in 2013. With a gap to gain sport-for-development industry-specific vocational experience with Interactive (now merged with London Sport), leading on the UK's largest disability network football programme, Anees joined the University of Kent for his PhD, researching organisational factors influencing participation sustainability from publicly funded community intervention programmes.
Alongside being in the final stages of his PhD, Anees also has continued research interests through consultancy worked that he has been involved in with the Walker Research Group. This has included ongoing research for Sport England and The Ramblers Stepping Out with Carers programme, NFL flag programme, and research consultancy for multiple voluntary organisations and charities in London.
As part of his industry experience, Anees, alongside his brother, founded and manages a sport management consultancy business, with his own interest concentrated on the community sports development and non-profit arm, CSM Foundation, from Centric Sports Management. In the last 2 years the Foundation has delivered projects to over 400 individual participants through funded programmes valuing over £50,000. As part of his consultancy work he has managed to secure over £85,000 for partner organisations who deliver community intervention programmes for sustainable participation outcomes.
