Biography

David J. Bryde is Director of Research & Knowledge Transfer and Professor of Project Management at Liverpool Business School.

His research brings a management science/social science perspective to the subject of sustainability in project management [PM], focusing on aspects of the topic in the context of projects and temporary multi-organisations [TMOs]. He is particularly interested in how projects and TMOs contribute to sustainable development through the design, procurement and delivery of new products, services, systems and infrastructures. This includes topics such as relational/psycho-social aspects of projects,, lean PM, sustainable procurement in projects, the management of customer/supplier networks in TMOs and the use of innovative processes and new digital technologies in PM.

His most recently completed research project, which was funded by the Association of Project Management [APM] investigated relational aspects in the management of outsourced projects.

He is currently the Lead Project Coordinator for the EU Marie Sklodowska Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) Horizon 2020 Work Programme “Being Lean and Seen: meeting the challenges of delivering projects successfully in the 21st century” (Euros 330,000). This is a four year project involving nine academic and non-academic partners from the UK, Germany and Malaysia.

He is also currently involved in an APM funded research project investigating the coping strategies adopted by project managers to deal with difficult stakeholders.

Professor Bryde is widely published, with in excess of100 journal papers, research monographs, book chapters, conference presentations, invited keynote speeches/guest lectures/presentations, expert interviews and articles.

He has supervised over 30 doctoral students to successful completion and has examined numerous PhDs and DBAs, both in the UK and overseas, as an external examiner.
