I trained as a Mental Health Nurse at the local County Asylum, Rainhill hospital in 1983. After qualification I worked in an acute in-patient setting before moving to work on the community with older adults. I then moved to work in what was an early Assertive Outreach Team, working with clients with complex needs, most of them with diagnoses of psychosis or personality disorder.
I left to take up a post as Senior Lecturer at JMU in 1998.
