Biography

My background is in paediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant and latterly in public health as a school nurse. I am passionate about children and young people’s health and wellbeing, and have led school nurse service improvements relating to sex and relationships education, obesity, mental health and an enhanced service provision project. During a role as extended school health coordinator, I established a successful extended school facility to address community needs and improve outcomes, working in partnership with a range of stakeholders. One focus of my work was the identification of weight related issues and inequalities. In particular this involved delivering public health interventions for healthy weight. The work was showcased as an area of best practice and innovation at the NHS Live 2006. When leading the school nurse obesity services I worked to develop service delivery in relation to healthy weight in order to successfully deliver the National Child Measurement Programme, enable access to interventions to address overweight and obesity, and support prevention through the promotion of healthy weight. I made key contributions to the PCT working party responsible for developing the local Healthy Weight Pathway for adults and children.
