Dr Ingrid Griffiths

Biography

Ingrid joined Liverpool John Moor’s University in 2017 as Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Sport Business programme. Ingrid is a highly experienced academic having accumulated 15 years in Sport Business and Management teaching and research. During that period, Ingrid has designed and developed a number of Sport Business related courses at both undergraduate and Master’s level.

Ingrid has taught on a range of sport and business related modules, including operations management, finance, governance and research methods at all levels. However, after completing her PhD in 2011, Ingrid began her legal training in 2014 and Ingrid’s specialist area of teaching now is in Sport Law.

Ingrid has research expertise in Nationalism and Sports, Tourism, Q Methodology, Surf Tourism and is currently researching and writing on a number of legal perspectives in sport in the following areas: Exploring the Legality of Fighting Sports in the UK (Mixed Martial Arts / UCF, Boxing), Sporting Integrity, Injury and concussive injuries in Equestrian Sports.

Ingrid is also a highly experienced External Examiner having examined at a number of Universities nationally. She has also acted as external expert on a number of validation panels. Ingrid is also a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (Higher Education Academy), Member of the British Association of Sport Law and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Managing Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
External engagement activities for Ingrid include undertaking a role as a Governor for two local schools, at primary and secondary educational levels.

Ingrid has undertaken a significant role in international collaborative working and partnerships in Russia and The United States of America. Ingrid has taught on programmes at both The Volga Region State Academy for Sport, Tourism and Physical Culture, based in Kazan in Russia, and also sport management programmes at North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, North Carolina. More recently, Ingrid has been involved in developing a Sport Management collaborative Master’s Level Degree with Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven.

Ingrid is currently co-authoring an academic text book in Sport Operations management to be published with Routledge, due in 2019.

Prior to a career in academia Ingrid has vast experience working in high profile Project Management roles for two large public sector agencies: The Canal and River Trust (formerly British Waterways) and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council in the West Midlands.
