Biography

I am a registered nutritionist in the areas of both food and public health. I research within the discipline of 'health at every size', I explore how and why people make the food choices they make, which social constructs influence these choices, and using qualitative methodologies I am investigating the concept of 'fatness' as an embodiment of neoliberalism. I am currently conducting a study on living with a fat body in a society focused on personal responsibility for healthy behaviours. I am also currently involved in ongoing research within the Nutrition and Health Research Group at LJMU looking to improve the profile of Takeaway and Away from Home eating, my input is to use qualitative methodologies to investigate the motivators for these food choices.

Teaching interests are; Sociological/Anthropological Aspects of Health, Food
Choices and Appetite, Politics and policies for health and food production/choices,
Research Methods – particularly qualitative methodologies
