Dr Kansara is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer with over 16 years of experience in professional practice and research in civil and structural engineering, with a major focus on bridges and industrial infrastructure. His research aims at broadening the understanding of structural systems, mechanics, materials and design processes through analytical, computational and lab- and field-based experimental investigations. His current research interests include:
1. Forensic investigation, Health monitoring and Non-destructive testing of structures;
2. Service-life performance evaluation and residual strength and remaining service life estimations;
3. Epistemic and aleatory uncertainties and risk quantification and management in structural design and assessments;
4. Development of holistic structural design processes by integrating the concepts of structural resiliency and robustness with reliability; and
5. Use of advanced composite materials for structural rehabilitation and retrofitting.
Dr Kansara is a technical member of the American Concrete Institute's committee ACI440 and the International Federation of Structural Concrete (fib) Commission 3, where he contributes towards the development of standards for the use of FRP composites for construction and Structural intervention upon existing structures. He is also a Technical Reviewer for the ACI's Structural and Materials Journals, and a PhD Examiner.
Prior to joining LJMU, Dr Kansara has worked as a Principal Engineer, Divisional Manager and Team Leader at multinational consulting companies in the UK and as an Engineering Scientist and a Specialist Consultant at the Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), India. He has also been a Visiting Researcher at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and at the ILEK-University of Stuttgart, Germany.
