David began his career as an Ambulance Cadet with Mersey Metropolitan Ambulance Service in 1984. Over the next 24 years he progressed from Ambulance Technician to Paramedic to Training Officer in Ambulance Aid whilst also becoming a qualified Ambulance Driving Instructor in 2005.

David is a Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Practice in the Faculty of Education, Health and Community at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). He contributes broadly to pre-registration and postgraduate programmes of study, and his areas of teaching interest lie around the development of clinical skills and patient assessment.

David has many research interests but focusses, in particular, on studies related to airway management in the pre hospital setting.

David currently teaches advancing paramedic practice and the complexities of paramedic practice to second year students and Enhanced Patient Assessment to BSc year 3 students paramedics. He also supports a range of teaching in practical skills across the Faculty.

David supports a number of paramedic students in a pastoral sense during full-time engagement on their programme of study at LJMU.

David was an integral part of the Paramedic team that won the national CATE award in 2019.
