Hannah Madden

Public Health Institute

Hannah is a PhD student at the Public Health Institute, Liverpool John Moores University.

Her research is a cross-cultural exploration of the ways people in the UK and USA use geo-spatial networking dating apps (e.g. Grindr, Tinder etc) to find same-sex partners. The study will examine the factors influencing behaviour and potential positive and negative health outcomes. The study is linked with Southern Connecticut State University and will explore differences and similarities between the UK and USA. Hannah will be spending some time doing primary research in Connecticut in 2018.

Hannah continues to contribute to teaching in PHI across all levels and supervises BSc and MSc dissertations students.

Prior to starting a full-time PhD Hannah was a researcher at the Public Health Institute, Liverpool John Moores University from 2010 - 2017. Most of her research focused on health service design, health inequalities, sexual health and minority and vulnerable populations. She led on a wide variety of projects including services evaluations, needs assessments, original research, equality impact assessments, literature reviews and analysis of externally collected data. She also provided part-time support to the teaching activities of PHI. She led was module leader for a level 4 Environmental Health module (Understanding and Engaging Populations) and taught on other modules across all levels.
