Biography

I am an Earth Scientist with broad interests in Quaternary science, archaeological science, palynology, sedimentology, molluscs, palaeoecology and palaeoenvironments. I use palynology to help in forensic cases. I also have interests in Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous stratigraphy and palaeoenvironments. I have done research in many countries including the UK, Ireland, Malta, Libya, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Jordan, Iraq, Vietnam, Borneo, Norway. I have published three edited books and over 190 research papers/book chapters. I am the founding editor of Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports and was previously editor of Journal of Archaeological Science. Currently I have funded research projects in Malta, Kurdish Iraq and Borneo.

My teaching is in Geography and focussed around changing environments and past human-environment interactions and I will be sharing teaching on a new module in Geoforensics. I have currently one PhD Student, Marta Fiacconi, who is working with me on pollen from the Shanidar Neanderthal site in Kurdish Iraq.
