Dr Ale Diaz

Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences

I am Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology in the School of Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University. My research interest are in the the use of biosurfactants for pharmaceutical and environmental applications. We aim to develop a cost-effective platform technology for the fermentative production of biosurfactants to be able to use them as antimicrobial molecules, biofilm disruptors, anti-cancer molecules on their own or in combination with other molecules.

Current research projects include:
1. Synergistic interactions between glycolipids and antibiotics, to be used as antimicrobial agents.
2. Develop a cost-effective platform technology for the fermentative production of biosurfactants using foam fractionation and green chemistry.
3. Metatranscriptomic analysis of target gut microorganisms subjected to glycolipids, to understand survival rates across different diseases.
4. Metatranscriptomic analysis of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans subjected to C26H23N5OS, a methanone with cariogenic biofilm inhibitory potential
5. Transcriptomic activity of Streptococcus mutans single biofilms and as a mixed biofilm co-incubated with Lactobacillus casei.
