About the School of Nursing and Advanced Practice
The School of Nursing and Advanced Practice has been committed to advancing developments in health and social care for over 25 years, tracing our origins back to 1991 when the Liverpool School of Nursing and Midwifery joined with Liverpool Polytechnic. Today, we continue to strive to tackle health inequalities and social exclusion and deprivation in local communities and beyond, through our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, along with a growing programme of international partnerships and student opportunities.
It is essential that our future nursing and allied health professionals have access to the very best facilities. Following a multi-million-pound investment we have developed a professionally recognisable and industry-standard suite of clinical skills and simulation environments and enhanced teaching spaces. These provide enhanced facilities for students to benefit from ward-based simulations, a simulated ambulance, anatomy resource spaces, a home environment, simulated intensive care areas and consultation and debriefing rooms. At LJMU our clinical skills and simulations suites and enhanced teaching spaces have benefited our students by providing a learning environment that allows them to develop and practice their clinical skills and required proficiencies safely, using the latest equipment.
Since no two patients are the same, neither are our virtual patients. We have a whole family of simulation manikins that speak, breathe and show life signs. Students can practise on a range of lifelike patients of different ages, shapes and sizes and with different ailments and medical conditions. These simulated environments are as close to the ‘real-world’ as possible, preparing students for the rigours and realism of clinical practice.
