Health and wellbeing

During your time with us you'll have access to a range of support.

Your wellbeing is important to us, which is why we offer all of our students:

  • Free, confidential, one-to-one counselling
  • Support from your Wellbeing Adviser. Your Wellbeing Adviser can help you before you start at Liverpool John Moores University by ensuring you have the appropriate support in place before you begin. They can also help you whilst you are studying here, by providing regular one-to-one sessions, an assessment and, at your request, they can also inform staff about your situation
  • Access to wellbeing drop-in sessions, which do not require an appointment
  • Free gym membership
  • The chance to join our Wellbeing Choir

Mental health support

I have mental health difficulties. Is there specialist support?

As a student here you could receive support from a Wellbeing Worker. The current Wellbeing Worker at Liverpool John Moores University is Sile MacRaghnaill. You can contact Sile using the following contact details: or 0151 231 3579.

If you have mental health difficulties it would also be beneficial if you met with a member of the Disability Advice Team. With a member of the Disability Advice Team you can discuss applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance.

I have mental health difficulties. What support is available?

If you experience difficulties with your mental health we advise you to make an appointment with the Disability Advice Team. The Team will be able to discuss your individual needs with you and advise you about applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance. In your meeting you can also talk about having a Study Needs assessment.

A Disabled Students’ Allowance could provide funding for your support. For example, it could fund a study mentor or buddy, equipment and, in some cases, travel expenses. The Disabled Students’ Allowance will also provide guidance to the Team on what teaching and assessment provisions you may need.

I love the choir - it's such a good way to let off steam, find a bit of confidence and generally let the stresses of the day disappear.
