Students in Liverpool | International Summer School

Live like an LJMU student

Due to the unprecedented situation with COVID-19 and to help safeguard the health, welfare and wellbeing of our students and staff we have made the difficult decision to suspend our 2020 International Summer School.

We understand this is very disappointing news as our team have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare this year’s programme, however we are already making plans for our 2021 International Summer School and we are looking forward to seeing you in the future at Liverpool John Moores University.

What can I study?

All International Summer School students have the opportunity to study English Language throughout the three-week programme. Students will attend English classes tailored to their language level. Sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, including subject specific sessions that aim to equip students with the necessary vocabulary and understanding for their particular academic pathway.

Engineering and Technology

Based in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, this pathway is varied and dynamic with a strong focus on practical learning. Students will have the exciting opportunity to experience the Faculty’s latest developments in areas from computing and engineering to maritime studies and built environment. With a strong global reputation for research excellence, the Faculty offers students the chance to learn from expert academics and leading industry professionals. Students will not only have access to a wide range of facilities, such as the Drones Laboratory and Maritime Simulator, but will also visit local industries outside of LJMU.

Art and Literature

The Art and Literature pathway offers students the unique chance to study within both Liverpool School of Art and Design and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Both Schools are dedicated to exceptional programme content delivered by world-leading academics, artists and designers. Students will take a variety of practical sessions, including; life drawing, pottery and Facelab, combined with workshops covering literature, cinematography and drama. Students will also be able to take advantage of the Faculty’s strong cultural partnerships in the city through visits to local galleries, museums and theatres, such as Tate Liverpool and Empire theatre.

Health and Wellbeing

Set within the Faculty of Health, students on the Health and Wellbeing pathway will receive a pioneering educational experience, informed by the expert academic staff and cutting-edge research. Set on the beautiful IM Marsh campus, in the leafy suburb of Aigburth only 5 miles from the city centre, the sessions will cover areas such as Midwifery, First Aid, Paramedic, Nursing and Mindfulness. "Bravo. During the stay in Liverpool, I can sense the historical evolution of the city and the modern life as well. No wonder it’s sister with Shanghai. I’m really surprised by your advanced facilities and outstanding teaching. It is literally way more better than my own university. It’ll be boss if I have opportunities to finish my further study here. Thanks for everything!"
