What is the deadline for applying for my funding?

You need to apply for your funding by the end of May. You can still apply after this date, but if you do apply later you may not receive your money for the start of term. In order to be eligible you must apply no later than nine months after the start of your course.

I'm not sure I want to go to university. Should I still apply for funding?

If you change your mind about going to university you can easily cancel your application later. You can also change your course or university once you have submitted your application. The main thing is to ensure you have completed and submitted your application by the May deadline.

If you apply for funding for a course at Liverpool John Moores University and decide to go elsewhere you can log into your funding application and change the university. If you decide to take a year out and go to university the following year you can cancel your application and apply again later.

I've applied for financial support from the Student Loans Company. How long will it take to process my application?

Funding applications take about 30 working days to process. This can be longer at busy times of the year. Make sure you apply early and don't worry about things changing as you can easily change information on your application later if you need to.

I've completed my UCAS application. Does that mean I've applied for funding?

No. Your funding application is separate to your UCAS application. Make sure you apply for your funding by the end of May.

Do you have any advice about setting up a bank account?

The most important thing to ensure your account has is access to an interest-free overdraft.  Many students use this to help make ends meet, especially if your student finance is late. However, you should remember this is not your money and the bank will want the money back after you graduate.

You will usually need your UCAS letter to open a student account. This will be on your UCAS account after A level results day once you have accepted your place at Liverpool John Moores University. You can print this off from your online account and take it (with normal ID) to open an account.

Have a look around on comparison websites and see which account is the best for you. Talk to your existing bank too.

Make sure you never go over your overdraft limit or your overdraft will no longer be interest-free. In some cases the bank may close your account. If you are struggling, get in touch with us. We may be able to help you with budgeting advice or access to hardship funds.
