Pre-arrival information

We cannot wait to welcome you to our world-class university and beautiful city of Liverpool

Before you begin your adventure, we recommend you read the important information below.

We hope this information will help you to feel prepared and excited for your summer as an LJMU Summer School student in Liverpool.

Visas

You may need a Short Term Study Visa to enter the UK. We recommend you visit the Gov UK website to check visa and immigration requirements for your home country. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa.

The LJMU International Relations team will issue a Short Term Study Visa support letter upon confirmation of your place on the programme. This letter can be used for your visa application and you should keep a copy with your passport to show immigration at the UK Border.

What to pack

Firstly, remember to check the airline’s luggage allowance to ensure you do not over pack or bring the wrong sized baggage.

Hand luggage

  • Passport (incl. visa)
  • Visa letter
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Credit/debit card and cash
  • Any medication you may need
  • Doctor’s note*

*If you are bringing large amounts of medication into the UK, it is likely that you will need to bring a doctor’s note with you confirming your condition and need for the medication.

Hold luggage (main suitcase)

  • Clothes and shoes for all weathers
  • Towel and Toiletries
  • Laptops/iPads with chargers
  • Travel adaptors
  • A notebook and pens

It is illegal to bring meat, fish, plants and honey into the UK. Liverpool has many international supermarkets so it is likely that food from home will be readily available.

Getting to Liverpool from the airport

LJMU International Summer School offers a Meet and Greet service at Manchester International Airport. There will be one morning collection and one evening collection on Saturday 18 July 2020.

If your flight does not fit within this timeframe or you would like to arrive earlier, there are a number of different options for travelling independently to Liverpool from Manchester Airport.

Remember: your accommodation will be available from 18 July onwards.

Enrolment

On the first day of the International Summer School at LJMU, you will attend an enrolment session and library induction during which you will gain access to LJMU computers and collect your new student ID card. In order to collect your student ID cards, you will need to bring your passport to the session.

You will have dedicated pastoral support whilst here in Liverpool. As a fully registered LJMU student, you also have access to all support and services available through Student Advice and Wellbeing
