Google Chrome browser
During October 2019 we will be changing the default web browser on our managed clients to Google Chrome, some of our systems already launch in Chrome so most people shouldn't notice any changes. Your favourites will NOT be imported into Chrome.
You have 2 options for importing your favourites, a one off import when you first launch it or sign in with your google account or create a new google account. Your favourites will be backed up to the cloud and roam with you on whatever device you log into.
Instructions below:
Manual Import
To import bookmarks from Internet Explorer:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top-right, click the More icon (3 dots
)
- Select Bookmarks
Import Bookmarks and Settings.
- Select the program that contains the bookmarks that you'd like to import.
- Click Import.
- Click Finished.
Automatically Sync Favourites (Requires a Google Account)
- At the top-right of Chrome, click the account icon
- Click the Turn on sync... button
- Create a google account or login if you have already registered
- Click Use my current email address instead
- You should now get a verification email with a code you need to fill in:
- You will now be asked for a mobile number to enable enhanced security (this is called 2 Factor Authentication). Once you have entered the code you have been sent you will be asked for some personal details, click finish when you are done and your account is now setup and set to sync your favourites.
If you are not asked to import your favourites you can do it now:
- At the top-right, click the More icon (3 dots
)
- Select Bookmarks
Import Bookmarks and Settings.
- Select the program that contains the bookmarks that you'd like to import.
- Click Import.
- Click Finished.
** IMPORTANT NOTE ** If this is a personal account be aware that favourites and history will appear in Chrome on your LJMU computer **
