Building safety guidance
The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors is our number one priority.
We have adapted all LJMU buildings to introduce a range of additional measures to keep us all safe and well.
Please play your part in keeping our campus safe by observing all guidance and signage as you move around our buildings.
Our commitment to LJMU Together is about us looking out for one another, within the university and in our communities.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19
The main symptoms of COVID-19 are a high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
If you have any of these symptoms, you must not come into our buildings.
You should stay at home and follow the NHS guidance.
For your safety, we are carrying out enhanced regular cleaning routines in all of our buildings.
Our dedicated staff are thoroughly cleaning things like door handles, handrails and buttons for lifts and doors.
We are continually monitoring these cleaning routines.
If you think additional cleaning is required in one of our buildings, please alert a member of staff at the reception desk or ring our helpdesk on 0151 231 5555 and choose option three.
If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve.
Put your used tissue in a bin immediately and wash your hands.
You can find hand sanitiser dispensers and towels throughout the building. If supplies are running low, please ring our helpdesk on 0151 231 5555 and choose option three.
We are also providing sanitising wipes across our buildings. Please use these to clean shared PC keyboards and work surfaces.
We have installed perspex screens at our reception desks to help protect all users of our buildings.
Wash your hands
We can all help to reduce the risk of passing on germs and infections by washing our hands regularly.
Please wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
Wash your hands when you arrive in our building and again when you return home.
Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
Please respect social distancing around our buildings by keeping the recommended distance from other people.
Making your way around the building
We will have a one-way system in operation in our buildings. Please keep left and follow the signage to help the safe flow of people around the building.
Where required, our staircases are clearly marked ‘up’ and ‘down’ only.
Using our lifts
Our lifts may only be used by one person at a time.
Please give priority to people with impaired mobility and those transporting goods or deliveries.
Wherever possible, please use the appropriate staircase to move between floors.
You should socially distance from other people while you are waiting to use the toilet facilities.
Please don’t queue inside the main toilet door. Wait for somebody to exit first. Wash your hands before and after using the toilet.
If we need to evacuate the building in an emergency, please follow the green and white emergency escape signs and use the nearest available emergency fire exit. You will not be required to follow the one-way system in such an event.
Smoking and vaping
You must not smoke or vape at building entry or exit points.
Only one person may use the kitchen at any one time.
If the kitchen is in use, please wait until the previous person has left.
You should use the cleaning products provided in our kitchens to wipe down kettles, taps and handles before and after you use them and wash your hands.
You should bring your own cutlery and crockery to and from work each day.
Visiting our buildings is restricted. Meetings should take place online or by phone wherever possible.
When visitors are required in LJMU buildings, you should complete the online visitor booking form in all instances.
You should collect your visitor from reception.
Post and deliveries
Incoming post and deliveries and outgoing post will be quarantined by Estate and Facilities Management for 72 hours. You should not have personal post and deliveries sent to LJMU.
Waste will continue to be collected by Estate and Facilities Management. Waste will be double bagged and quarantined for 72 hours prior to collection by the waste contractor.
To reduce the risk of contamination to Estate and Facilities Management staff, please make sure all waste is placed in a waste bin.
Taps and drinking fountains
If you wish to get water from a drinking fountain or tap, please use disposable cups where available. You should not use taps or fountains to refill bottles.
Thank you for helping us to keep our buildings safe and clean.
If you have any concerns about safety or hygiene in your building, please ring the helpdesk on 0151 231 5555 and choose option three.
