Face coverings

The wearing of face coverings (masks or scarves) is mandatory at LJMU. Face coverings are to be worn inside buildings unless people have medical exemption. Externally on campus masks do not need to be worn if 2m social distancing can be maintained.

We require you to wear a face covering in the following areas:

  • Classrooms
  • Libraries
  • Lecture theatres
  • Corridors
  • Social spaces
  • Reception areas
  • Laboratories
  • Studios

LJMU reusable face coverings are available for everyone – you can collect them from reception desks in LJMU buildings. Please don’t be embarrassed about wearing them, it shows you care about others.

What if I have a medical exemption from wearing a face covering?

There will be a small number of students who will be exempt - for health reasons - from wearing face coverings. If this applies to you, you will be required to wear a Sunflower Lanyard at all times when on Campus. You can request a Sunflower Lanyard via Student Advice and Wellbeing Services (SAW) by emailing Once you receive a confirmation email from SAW you will be able to collect the lanyard at Reception points across the University campus.
