Kiran's story

Kiran Javaid graduated in Mass Communications and Media Studies from the University of Gujrat in Pakistan before coming to LJMU to study for a Masters in International Journalism.

“I was searching for universities offering commonwealth scholarships when I came across LJMU. After reading about Liverpool Screen School, its facilities and modern infrastructure, I decided it was the right choice for me.

Courses at LJMU have a practical aspect and offer a really good learning experience. Assignments are designed to take account of real world challenges. This keeps me on my toes and helps me to realise my potential and expand my limits. Whereas undergraduate study is all about learning certain things, postgraduate is all about research and inventing something new.

It is really easy to interact with tutors here. They are kind and really concerned about their students, always willing to solve any problems. And the support doesn’t end there, the University support teams are always on hand to give advice on everything from wellbeing and finance to career development.

LJMU is all about learning and fun. I would definitely recommend it. Liverpool is a city of students, a beautiful place with a rich history. It is peaceful and calm yet, at the same time, there is always something happening, catering for all interests. I love to walk around the docks, shop in the city centre and try out all of the great independent restaurants on Bold Street.

On graduation I would like to work on a magazine and then become a freelance journalist for large media organisations. Long term I would like to return to academia and become a lecturer.”
