Learn more about the work the Group undertakes

The Group conducts research into business management professional practice in both the private and public sector.

The Management, Learning, Knowledge, Organisations, HR and Evaluation Research Group’s core research themes include:

  • Business learning in higher education
  • Knowledge for business
  • Gender and spirituality issues in business organisation
  • Human resources practice and research
  • Public and private sector projects evaluation
  • Health management

In the latest research assessment (Research Excellence Framework 2014), researchers from the Group submitted to the Unit of Assessment 25 (Business Education). 61% of this work was rated as world leading or internationally excellent (4* or 3*).

In addition to this success, the Group recently completed the Development of Knowledge Management Procedures project for Frankfurt Airport. This project examined the airport’s business processes, improved efficiency and simplified complexity across the organisation’s billing department.

The Group is also working on a project that assesses the efficacy of the six-sigma quality processes on construction projects in Qatar. Although the project is ongoing, the research could potentially improve quality implementation within West Asia and the Middle East. Currently, there are limited six sigma studies within the construction industry. Therefore, depending on the results, this research could impact upon how six sigma is used within industry.

Collaborations are central to the Management, Learning, Knowledge, Organisations, HR and Evaluation Research Group’s strategy. Currently, the Group collaborates with a range of prestigious institutes, including: the Association of Business Schools, UAE Embassy in the UK, Ramkhamhaeng University, the National Institute of Development Administration, Songkhla Rajabaht University, Southern Connecticut State University Business School, Seville University, Spain, Stuttgart University and the University of Ostrava.

Similarly, the Management, Learning, Knowledge, Organisations, HR and Evaluation Research Group has numerous links with businesses and organisations in the Middle East and Far East, including: agriculture companies in Riyadh, the Police Department in Abu Dhabi, two banks in Bahrain, Aramco oil company,  various construction projects in Qatar and oil companies in Malaysia.
