Within the time domain astrophysics research group, we are involved in major observational survey projects. We work on a variety of explosive transients, including galactic and extragalactic novae, type la supernovae, core collapse supernovae, and gamma rays bursts. Rachael is the winner of the Rose Paterson Sportswoman Community Award 2023 for her dedication to the sport of netball in Liverpool. Not only is she an inspiring community sports coach she juggles teaching and being a mum alongside her own development, having most recently gained an MPhil with LJMU.
Fadi is a 2023 graduate from the maritime business and management programme. He came to the UK as a refugee, having fled his home in Damascus, Syria, and gaining his initial qualifications in Greece. He used his dissertation research to highlight the challenges facing the shipping sector and their obligations under international law to help vessels in distress, including refugee and migrant boat crossings.
Rachael is the Principal and Chief Executive at Hugh Baird College. She is passionate about post-16 education and was inspired to study at LJMU thanks to her own school PE teacher. She is incredibly student focused, ensuring that young people and adults from Merseyside can gain better skills which will enable them to seek out better lives.
Professor Michael Brown was the second Vice-Chancellor of the university, taking on the role at the helm from 2000 to 2011. Under his leadership, the university underwent a decade of quiet revolution, with the development of new campus buildings and a focus on graduate employability.
Michael is an alum of LJMU, having completed his undergraduate studies in sport science and postgraduate studies in public health here. Today he is the Deputy CEO of Everton in the Community, Everton Football Club’s charitable arm that supports thousands of people across Merseyside, often from the most vulnerable and underprivileged local communities, and creates life-changing opportunities.
