Thinking of joining a student group? All of our clubs and societies’ first sessions of the year are completely free – so if you have a chat with a few groups that take your fancy at Freshers’ Fair, or if you’ve browsed online and are interested in having a go, you can do that without having to make any commitments first.
What we do and how you can get involved
Join a student group Whether you want to discover a new hobby or continue a lifelong passion, joining a club or society will help you stay active, make lasting friendships and develop personally. We have over 100 to choose from, from Dance Society, to American Football to Vegan & Vegetarian Society.
Come to an event We run events year-round exclusively for LJMU students. Get to know Liverpool, its awesome venues and other students by coming to one of our regular events. We run a different event every month during term-time, including special Halloween and Christmas events in the first semester.
Be the change you want to see! If something isn’t up to scratch, it shouldn’t just be ignored – it should change. We’re here to empower you to use your voice, whether that’s on a local (here at LJMU) or national level. You could change something on your course, decide what we should be working on at one of our Action Groups, start a campaign, represent LJMU at NUS Conference and more.
We’re here for support, if and when you need it. Our Academic Advice Centre is a professional, impartial, confidential and non-judgemental service, open to all LJMU students. It’s free, easy to use and there for you throughout the year if ever you might need it. For anything else, we’ll be here to listen and point you in the right direction.
We help you to access massive student discounts. As a first year undergraduate LJMU student, you get a FREE 12 month Student Discount Card worth £12. Totum (previously NUS Extra) is the official, internationally recognised student discount card. It usually costs £12, but it absolutely free for you as a first year LJMU student – so make sure you redeem it and make the most of it. Discounts include Apple, Microsoft, Co-op, Dominos, Odeon, WH Smith, National Express, the 16-25 railcard and much more. How to get it: Once you’ve arrived and registered as a student at LJMU, find the email in your LJMU inbox with the subject line: FREE student discount card inside. This will contain your unique code to redeem your card. Then download the free Totum app on Google Play or the Apple App Store to unlock all of the local discounts.
Your Student Officers
JMSU is led by a team of four Student Officers. We’re elected in each year by LJMU students to represent you, lead on important campaigns for students and look after specific areas of student life.
You’ll see us during your induction, at Freshers’ Fair, at SU events and around campus throughout the year. Make sure you say hello.
L-R: Lila Tamea, VP Academic Quality, Mollie Foster, VP Activities, Julia Daer, President, Megan Hill, VP Community
