About the LJMU Libraries and IT support
The University Library is one of our biggest assets and students gravitate to the three on-site libraries not just for the purpose of supporting their studies but also because we have created an appealing and relaxing learning environment that, in the city based libraries, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The three libraries act as the hub for all front-line services for students via an over the counter service where friendly staff can advise on any student-related questions and where you can register and enrol, hand in your coursework, pay any fees and ask for guidance on anything related to the student experience.
All of the libraries have WiFi so you can work on your own device or you can borrow a laptop, book a PC, book a space for you and your friends to work quietly, print, copy, and scan.
From PCs to periodicals, the libraries have everything you need to get started with your studies. We have a comprehensive collection of resources for study and research available on site and online, supported by a team of expert librarians and dedicated subject specialists who are available for advice. Our collections include over 500,000 print and electronic books, and over 30,000 print and electronic journals. We also have a diverse range of newspapers, conference proceedings, maps, legal documents, technical information and other resources.
Discover is LJMU’s powerful single search tool and the main access point for our electronic resources. It enables you to find high-quality academic research quickly and easily. The search tool is accessible on and off-campus, which means that you have 24/7 access to a huge range of exceptional learning resources.
You can also search over 230 subject databases independently from our Electronic Library to access world-leading collections of subject-specific resources and utilise special features e.g. alerting services to track new research.
Every subject, every topic and every interest is covered in our collections.

The libraries also include some of the 2,500 open access PCs that are spread across campus. Once you're a registered student you'll have access to all of them, and the IT support that is offered too.
LJMU students and staff have access to current, industry-standard software, many of which are available for free home use, including: McAfee Anti-virus, Matlab, SPSS, Endnote X7, Solidworks 2015-2016, Turning Point 2008, Autodesk including Revit/3DSMax/AutoCAD and more.
