CPD Negotiated Work Based Learning Professional Studies
Level 6 (undergraduate), 20 Credits
This course aims to enable healthcare professionals to maximise work-based learning opportunities in order to facilitate career and professional development.
The content is negotiable dependent on the selected area of study. This may be identified by you and your manager as a result of individual performance review or it could be an independent project.
A learning agreement based on the selected area of study will then be developed with a University facilitator and work place mentor/assessor. Individual aims and objectives and assessment strategies will be discussed and agreed. The agreement may be based, for example, on a wide range of learning opportunities arising from:
- Skills for health
- Occupational standards
- NMC standards for professional practice
- the higher level descriptors or standards for better health
It could also be based on an area of interest or practice development interest that has arisen from formal attendance at a CPD or an in-service development programme.
Teaching and learning
You will be required to attend a briefing meeting followed by a minimum of three follow up meetings to develop and complete a work-based learning agreement.
As part of this agreement, a tri-partite arrangement will be established to work with a University facilitator and a work place mentor or assessor to support you in the work place.
The length of the course will vary according to the negotiated area of learning but should not exceed 1 year wherever possible.
- be employed within a healthcare setting
- be able to provide evidence of recent study at Level 5
- have a named designated assessor/mentor and a deputy to provide supervision and opportunities to enable and support you through your work-based learning programme
Level 6 Negotiated Work Based Learning will be assessed via portfolio (4,500 words), focusing on a workbased project, individual learning plan and refection.
This Continuing Professional Development can be studied within the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Development award framework or as a single CPD.
The University may make changes to a programme of study or module where such changes are deemed to be beneficial to students, are minor in nature and unlikely to impact negatively upon students or become necessary due to circumstances beyond the control of the University.
