Course content

We recognise that while you may already have considerable experience as a paramedic, you may also need and want further academic recognition to enhance your practice and future-proof yourself for emerging roles. This is an exciting opportunity for existing practicing HCPC registered Paramedics to build and develop your knowledge, professionalism and research skills required to enhance your current and future practice. This programme will help you to achieve the high standard expected of today’s professional, enabling you to deliver high quality patient care.

Providers of paramedic education in the UK are required to prepare learners to work anywhere in the UK and across health care settings. Practice Education is an important part of your role as a registrant and this programme offers guidance on this critical component of the education and development of the learners that you will support in practice.

Students will be working in practice and therefore will be part time but will be supported by the programme lead throughout. They will have access to all areas of the university as per full time students. The students will have access to online material to support their learning.

The syllabus will cover the following areas:

  • Principles of learning, teaching, assessment and accountability
  • Communication methods and working relationships with students/registrants and the inter-professional team
  • Tripartite relationships/learning agreements
  • Clinical mentorship/practice education and facilitation of learner support
  • Developing the clinical learning environment
  • Competence-based assessment in the practice setting
  • The development of effective roles and positive relationships within urgent and emergency care teams

Teaching and learning

This is an online module, running for 14 weeks with 200 hours of total learning time provided using a blended model utilising: lectures, reflective discussions, virtual learning environment, workbooks and tutorials.
