The Liverpool Business School is a supportive environment in which to study and the 'student-centred approach' of your tutors will ensure that you are given the support and guidance you need. During your studies you will also have the continual support of a personal tutor who will meet with you one-to-one to discuss assessments, monitor progress and help you to formulate your career plans. We also provide study support classes should you need extra help with assessments.
Networking is an effective way to make new contacts and improve your career prospects, and so the HR team at LJMU is currently bringing together a community of undergraduate and postgraduate HR students and practitioners who can learn from and support each other. We run a series of events throughout the year and invite all our students, from first year undergraduates to doctoral students.

Human Resource Officers need to be business thinkers as well as leaders and be able to translate theoretical concepts into practical reality. Their ultimate goal is to boost the people capacity, thereby reducing staff turnover and increasing productivity. For this they need high levels of interpersonal skills, self-motivation, adaptability and persuasiveness. This CPD course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and experience required to succeed in this fascinating and challenging role.
This programme has been designed specifically for people who work full-time, with a single module starting in September and January and classes running on Thursday evenings. You will also have the option to attend additional networking sessions with undergraduate and postgraduate HRM students, subject to agreement from your employer.
The key aim of this programme is to encourage you to foster an ethos of continuing professional development in your work and throughout your career.

The topics covered include the full employee lifecycle ranging from recruitment, performance to exit. The programme aims to build on your current understanding of strategic and operational HR practices and develop your knowledge and skills making reference to academic literature as appropriate.

Teaching and learning
Excellent facilities and learning resources.
Teaching focuses on real people-management situations, with mock interviews, presentations and case studies to enhance your practical as well as your academic skills. Private study is an important part of your learning and should account for approximately half of your weekly schedule.
Expert tuition and support.
Your tutors have all worked as human resource managers and have an excellent record of training HR professionals. They are active researchers who regularly present their findings at national and international conferences, so you can be confident that the curriculum is directly informed by the latest research and trends in HR.
Assessment and feedback
Assessment varies depending on the modules you choose, usually a combination of exams and coursework.
We understand that each student performs differently depending on the way they are assessed, which is why we use a combination of assessment methods. These include:
- a seen case study exam
- class tests and quizzes
- summaries of e-discussions
- group and individual presentations
- written work such as management reports
- practical assessments such as mock interviews
- records of learning
Your tutors will aim to provide assessment feedback within three weeks, and will happily discuss it with you in class or one-to-one. This is particularly important as it gives you a chance to identify your strengths as well as the areas that may need further attention. We also offer study support classes to help you prepare for assessments.

Applicants would normally have completed the CIPD Certificate in either Personnel or Training Practice and work in a HR related role. We will also consider applications from those with relevant work experience who can demonstrate their ability to cope on the programme.

It will enable you to consider your strengths and development areas, your career motivators, the options available to you and the necessary steps to take to achieve your career goals.

This course is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and has been developed to reflect its Intermediate Standard Level. If you complete the programme successfully, you will become an Associate Member.
