The Summer Universities at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) are a fantastic way to find out what life at university is really like. The whole programme is free of charge to students in Years 12/13 and all we ask is that you fund your own way to and from Liverpool.
You will spend three days and two nights working alongside our academic staff and current students. By staying in real student accommodation you will get a feeling for what it is like to live away from home. If you are from outside of Liverpool, you will have the option of a city-tour, taking in the sights and sounds of our amazing city. In addition everybody will go out each night for food in the centre of Liverpool and afterwards will take part in a range of evening activities to keep you entertained and enable you to meet new people and make friends.
The daytime academic sessions are designed to give you a real taste of what it would be like to study at LJMU and help you to decide which course is right for you!

The Creative Writing Summer University programme will give you an insight into the range of forms and genres explored in the course. LJMU’s Creative Writing degree programme offers students the opportunity to explore and develop their skills in writing Prose, Poetry and Script. Level 4 modules are compulsory, in order to ensure that all new entrants have a good grounding in the three major forms.
In Levels 5 and 6, students are able to specialise in areas of writing that are of greatest interest to them – for example, novel writing, fantasy fiction, creative non-fiction, writing for radio and stage - building the skills and expertise needed to write to a professional standard. By analysing and examining the writerly techniques used in published texts and by guided writing exercises, our students are encouraged to develop their own writing practice and unique voice.
The Summer University will flex your imagination, help you access your creative self, provide taster sessions in Prose, Poetry and Script, and leave you with a desire to write more!
