The world in which we live is dominated by modern materials. Amazingly strong lightweight materials are used in the construction of aircraft, tough durable materials are used in nuclear power stations and wear resistant materials are used to make biomedical implants for the human body.

This practical session will help you to find out how components are designed and materials selected for real world engineering applications. You will test materials to destruction and measure their properties in exactly the same way that engineers do when selecting materials for particular applications in industry. You will also have the opportunity to visit our materials testing laboratory and have demonstrations of state of the art testing facilities.
