Frequently asked questions

Got a question about our Open Days? You might find the answer below:

Where do I need to go?

Where you need to go depends on the subject you would like to study.

All course subjects are listed in your Open Day Planner (Sample) with exact location details.

If you are interested in subjects relating to engineering, technology, science or health, please head to the City Campus on Byrom Street.

For all other subjects, including the arts, business, law and education, please register at the John Lennon Art and Design Building, which can be found on the Mount Pleasant Campus.

Can I bring friends/family with me?

Your friends and family are more than welcome to come along. However, talks can get very busy and space can become limited. Certain tours also require some walking, which small children or elderly relatives may find difficult, though in most cases a free shuttle bus will be able to transport you.

How do I get there?

Liverpool is easy to reach by road, rail, air and boat. If you’d prefer to drive, Liverpool has plenty of on-street and multi-storey car parking options for you to choose from.

More information about directions and travelling to your Open Day.

Does the University provide parking?

We are a city-based university split over three campuses. As we are located at the heart of Liverpool city centre, we are unfortunately unable to provide free parking during the open day events. However, there is plenty of on-street and NCP car parking available.

I don't know what subject I would like to study. What should I do?

If you are undecided about the subject you would like to study, or you’re interested in several different subjects, please go to the John Lennon Art and Design Building. Here you’ll find The Market Place. Found on the lower-ground floor of the John Lennon Art and Design Building, The Market Place will cover every subject and is a great place to start.

Or, if you’re headed to City Campus, you can visit our Mini-Market Place on Byrom Street. You’ll find information on all of our courses (apart from the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies, who will based in the John Lennon Art and Design Building) at the Mini-Market Place.

Why do I need to register?

It is important that you sign in on arrival. Doing so confirms your attendance.

Our registration points are based at two locations – the City Campus on Byrom Street and the John Lennon Art and Design Building on Mount Pleasant Campus. At these registration points you will find useful information, maps and directions, plus advice on accommodation, fees and funding. Staff at these registration points can also help you get the most out of your visit, while our students will be on hand to show you around.

A free bus service will also be available to transport you to/from teaching buildings, allowing you to attend different subject talks and tours.

Can I still come to the Open Day if I haven't registered?

Yes, not a problem. Head to a registration point in either the John Lennon Art and Design Building or the James Parsons Building, which can be found on Byrom Street.

The Open Day runs from 9.00am - 3.30pm. Will I need to stay all day?

An Open Day is an event just for you, which is why we think you should be able to plan your own itinerary based around the programme of activities that will be running throughout the day.

Please check your Open Day Planner (Sample) for specific details so that you can attend the talks and tours you feel are most relevant to you.

There will be plenty to do during the Open Day. However, if you can only make one or two talks, or you simply want to see our student accommodation, the choice is yours.

Will I be able to see any student accommodation?

Student accommodation will be open and available to view from 9.00am – 3.30pm. Simply pick up a walking tour map from any of the information or registration points found at the Mount Pleasant or City Campus. You can visit as many accommodation buildings as you want. On arrival staff will greet you and show you around.

If you would like some advice on where might be most suited to your accommodation needs, visit the Redmonds Building or Byrom Street and chat to our expert Accommodation Office team.

What will happen if I am late and miss my talk/tour? What should I do?

Late arrivals aren't a problem. You may miss your specific talk or tour, but staff will be available all day (9.00am - 3.30pm) in both the John Lennon Art and Design Building Market Place, and the Byrom Street Mini-Market Place.

You will be able to chat to academic and admissions staff about the full range of courses on offer, visit your student accommodation and find out about student welfare right up until 3.30pm. Check the Open Day Planner (sample) for details.

What should I do if I can't attend the Open Day?

If you can’t attend the Open Day, don’t worry. Alternative Open Day dates might be available.

We also offer regular campus tours, which last for approximately one hour. On the tour, you’ll be shown student accommodation, your Students’ Union and the library.

Remember, if you decide to make an application to Liverpool John Moores University, you will also be invited to a subject-specific Applicant Day – a further opportunity to get to know us.

Where can I get a cup of coffee or some lunch?

Refreshments will be available in various locations, from Liverpool John Moores University cafes to Starbucks. Details can be found in your Open Day Planner (Sample).

If you would like to try somewhere else on your way to a faculty building, or perhaps on a self-guided walk to view accommodation, there are plenty of excellent options in Liverpool. Use the map in your Open Day Planner (Sample) to help you explore.

What else is there to do in Liverpool?

Liverpool was recently voted the third best city in the world to visit (Rough Guides) and there are plenty of things to see and do during your visit.

You can head to the Albert Dock, check out Tate Liverpool or explore one of Liverpool’s many museums. Or why not spend your afternoon shopping?

Have a look at Visit Liverpool if you’re stuck for ideas, or take a City Tour as part of your Open Day event. Details for the City Tour trips can be found in your Open Day Planner (Sample).
