Key activities in 2022/23

Actions so far include:

  • launching our BES Athena Swan Action Plan
  • establishing a BES Inclusion Ambassador Network of trained staff to promote allyship and provide advice on dealing with student issues related to harassment, bullying and inappropriate behaviour
  • establishing a BES Student Cultural Diversity Network

Key activities in 2021/22

In 2021/22 the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences:

  • established the BES EDI group and the BES Student EDI group
  • analysed BES student demographic and attainment gap data to inform our 2021/22 objectives
  • set up anonymous online forms, one for staff and one for students, to raise issues/suggestions on EDI matters
  • collaborated with students to design and run a Student Harassment Survey to gain data to inform actions
  • won funding, from the Teaching and Learning Academy, and supervised two BES student internships to address inclusivity in the curriculum
  • began decolonising the curriculum by conducting an audit of current and planned delivery of a decolonial perspectives in all programmes
  • been awarded a departmental Athena Swan Bronze Award. The new revised Athena Swan charter is inclusive of all genders and intersectional with all protected characteristics
