Support available and making the most of summer 2024

As the academic year draws to a close for most of our students, it’s important to remember that support is still available from LJMU over the summer months.

Building opening times

Our Student Life Building will be open 24/7 over the summer break.

Libraries

The library at SLB will be open from 8.45am to 7pm, Monday to Friday; from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

The Avril Robarts Library will be open from 8.45am to 7pm, Monday to Friday; from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

The Aldham Robarts Library will be open from 8.45am to 5pm, Monday to Friday; from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

Please note
Due to improvement works being carried out, the Pavilion at Aldham Robarts Library will be closed from 20 May until September. There are other spaces available for you in Aldham Robarts and the SLB while this work is taking place.

Need a book from Aldham?

If there is a book you would like to check out from Aldham Library and won’t be able to visit us at the above times, remember you can reserve items and collect them from Avril Robarts Library instead. Simply select ‘Avril Robarts Library’ from your pickup location selection.

Need to return a book?

You can drop off items at any of our three sites at the times above.

Library support

Library staff will be available in-person at the above times to support you with your Library and IT queries, or you can contact us through the following ways:

Core Café opening times

Over the summer, our Core Cafes on campus will be open from 8am to 3pm (except for those in the Student Life Building and Tithebarn Building, which are open 8am to 4pm).

Please note the café in the John Lennon Art and Design Building will be closed for summer after the degree show on 27 May. The Byrom Street social zone café will be closed from week commencing 3 June until September.

Wellbeing and Money Advice

Our Student Advice and Wellbeing team is still on hand to support with your health and wellbeing.

You can speak to wellbeing advisors by dropping by the SAW desk in the Student Life Building or booking a student wellbeing appointment online.

The Money Advice Team can be contacted for financial advice, including support with end of year bills or graduation costs. You can also find out about all the support available to you on our Cost of Living hub, including how to apply for financial support, which does not need to be paid back, via the Student Support Fund.

Academic Achievement Support

Our Academic Achievement team is still available throughout the summer with drop in sessions and classes still ongoing. Results Notification Day is 7 June and the team will be on hand if you don't get the results you hoped for, need to resit, or want to improve your study skills over the summer, ahead of the next academic year.

View the Academic Achievement drop in appointment calendar.

Ways to make the most of your summer

As well as support there’s so many ways to make the most out of your summer. Here are our suggestions:

Advance Your Career

  • Unitemps

If you're a student or recent LJMU graduate (within 2 years of graduation), dive into flexible, paid opportunities through Unitemps. Beyond financial gains, these assignments boost your CV, enhance employability skills, and increase organisational awareness. Visit Unitemps and start applying to jumpstart your career!

  • Access Student Futures

As an LJMU student or graduate, you have access to Student Futures for lifelong career support. Get help with CVs, interview preparation, and career guidance through Careers Zone 24/7. Book a one-to-one careers meeting and explore e-learning courses tailored to your career goals. Take a look at the placement opportunities available both part time and full time over the upcoming summer months.

  • Join LJMU Connect

If you are graduating this summer, graduation doesn't mark the end of your LJMU journey! Connect with a global community of LJMU alumni through LJMU Connect. Apart from reconnecting with friends, you can expand your professional network, attend events and reunions, partake in the mentorship program, and be mentored. You can also join if you’re still a student.

Focus on Health and Wellbeing

  • After the exam period, prioritise your health and wellbeing. LJMU offers discounted gym memberships until August 31, 2024, with access to the LJMU gym, sports hall and courts, equipment plus various fitness classes, including yoga, pilates, strength and conditioning, boxing fitness, and more included in your membership. Book your sessions through the LJMU Sport app or sign up to a membership.

  • Don’t forget LJMU's Student Advice and Wellbeing services for mental health, international, or financial advice are still available. (You can view all the details above).

Go travel

The summer months are a great time to travel and explore the wonderful world around us. Contact the Go Global Team via email or on instagram or drop by the Student Life Building, for advice on international programs, opportunities or solo travelling.

Explore Liverpool and Beyond

If you’re staying around Liverpool over the summer break why not visit local attractions like Sefton Park or venture to nearby beaches in Formby, Crosby, or the Wirral, there's so much to discover. Within a short travel time, you can also explore the Lake District or Wales.

Check out one of our recent graduates’ recommendations for things going on this spring summer or head to the Visit Liverpool website for upcoming events.

Wishing you a safe and happy summer break

Whatever you get up to over the coming months we hope you have a safe and happy summer break. Congratulations to all of our students who will be graduating in July and for those returning in September, we can’t wait to see you back on campus already!
