Ada Lovelace (1815 - 1852)
- Lovelace was born in London and collaborated with inventor Charles Babbage on his mechanical general purpose computing machine, the Analytical Engine.
- She was the first person to foresee the creative potential of the Engine, realising it could do so much more given the right programming and inputs.
- In 1843, Lovelace published a computer program to generate Bernoulli Numbers.
- Her program was the most complete, most elaborate and first to be widely published, Babbage having written only fragments of programs before this.
- Lovelace's vision of computing’s possibilities was unmatched by any of her peers and went largely unrecognised for over a century.
