Careers and employability support
Whether you graduate this year or if you are a recent LJMU graduate, it is important to remember you have lifetime access to all of our careers services. This includes accessing 1-to-1 careers meetings with our team of careers professionals, attending any of our webinars, recruitment fairs or employer events, and accessing our digital careers platform and job board.
Student Futures, LJMU’s Careers, Employability and Start-up team are here to help at any time so get in touch or access our services using the information below (please note some services have different points of entrance for graduates). This is how we can support our current final year students, who will soon be tackling the jobs market, and our recent graduates still seeking the right opportunity.
Grad Academy: LJMU's premier transition programme
Grad Academy will run three times during the spring/summer 2024 on 14 & 15 May (two-day, in-person sessions at Student Life Building), 21 May (one-day, online sessions), and 23 July (one-day, online sessions). You only need to attend one of the three options available.

- decoding employer expectations
But that's not all! Upon completion of the programme, you'll receive a Grad Academy certificate and digital badge, showcasing your dedication to professional development and setting you apart in the job market.
Grad Academy is open to all LJMU final year students (undergraduate, PGT and PGR) from any programme, and 2023 LJMU graduates only.

Registration is now open for all three Grad Academy programmes taking place during the spring and summer so book a place now and embark on a transformative journey towards achieving your career goals!
Tuesday 14 & Wednesday 15 May: two-day, in-person event at the Student Life Building, 9.30am-3.30pm
The two-day, in-person Grad Academy programme on 14 and 15 May also offers you the unique opportunity to informally network with leading employers and external professionals, explore and gain an insight into local organisations first hand during site visits, and grow your professional network. The organisations taking part in the site visits are John Lewis, In-house Legal Solutions, The Brain Charity and Angel Solutions. Additional employers will also join for lunch and networking on Day 2.
A free lunch will be provided on both days of the in-person programme. Final year home students (UG, PGT and PGR) attending both in-person days on 14 & 15 May could be entitled to a £50 attendance payment. T&Cs apply. Complete this form to claim attendance payment, please ensure you have booked your place on Grad Academy prior to completing the claim form. Payment will be approved on completion of both Grad Academy in-person days.

Tuesday 21 May: one-day online programme, 10am-4pm
This programme will run online via Microsoft Teams. Instructions on how to join will be sent to you when you register to attend.
The first 50 final year students (home-based, final year undergraduates, PGTs and PGRs only) who register could be eligible for a £50 attendance payment if you attend the full day (10am-4pm on 21 May), T&Cs apply. Book your place on 21 May and then complete this form to claim attendance payment. Payment will be approved on completion of the full day.
Tuesday 23 July: one-day online programme, 10am-4pm
This programme will run online via Microsoft Teams. Instructions on how to join will be sent to you when you register to attend.
One-to-one support via careers meeting
Gain clarity on your career next steps with one-to-one advice and guidance from our team of experienced and qualified careers professionals. Our advisers can help you decide which direction to take next, what options are available to you (that could be further study, getting a graduate-level job, starting your own business/freelancing, or something else entirely), and where to find suitable opportunities. They can also help with practical advice about application forms, CVs and covering letters, and help you prepare for job assessments and interviews.
Careers and employability sessions, employer events and recruitment fairs
We run a programme of careers and employability events designed to help you to maximize your skills and help you negotiate your next steps. Topics include CV writing, interviews, constructing a standout application, maximising LinkedIn for your career, and more. Alongside this, we regularly invite employers and recruiters to speak to students via online events and visits to our campus-based Careers Zones at Student Life Building and Byrom Street.

Careers Zone 24/7 – Interactive digital Apps, jobs board and e-learning modules
Careers Zone 24/7 is a continually expanding portfolio of interactive development tools, resources, assessments, videos and content which is easy to use and allows you to make a measurable impact on your employability. You can track your progress, identify skills and confidence gaps, get personalised feedback and take part in a personalised programmes of activities.
The platform also features a job board and interactive careers tools including CV Builder, CV360, Interview360, Aptitude Tests, Assessment Centre tool and the Labour Market Information tool.

Current LJMU students or new or recent LJMU graduates have exclusive access to opportunities for flexible, part-time, paid work through Unitemps at Liverpool John Moores University - our very own on-campus recruitment agency. As well as boosting your finances, assignments strengthen LJMU graduates’ CVs, their employability skills and their organisational awareness and could be a good stopgap if you are still deciding on your next steps or perhaps are intending to go travelling or take a gap year.
