Contingent Workers and Honorary Visiting Positions

Liverpool John Moores is an inclusive civic university and we welcome many visitors to our campuses every year. The vast majority of our visitors are on-site for a very brief period of time and will not require any independent access to our buildings or have any need for temporary IT access. There are protocols in place for such situations to report a visitor and this guidance should not be used for these types of visitors.

In limited circumstances visitors may require independent access to buildings and/or access to SharePoint online for academic colleagues from other institutions for collaborative purposes. Prior to any such visits being arranged they must first be approved via the academic visitor process via your faculty using the Academic Visitor form.

Please note:
IT and email access is not available to academic visitors. For advice on secure collaboration options or appropriate routes for access, please contact the IT Helpdesk for guidance.

A visitor for the purpose of this guidance is anyone who is not an LJMU employee or student and who comes to LJMU on a temporary basis and requires access to our facilities including IT, buildings, and laboratory spaces.

This guidance covers two types of visitors:

  1. Contingent workers: Although they are not employees, the designation in Oracle or Staff Infobase for them is Contingent Worker as they are expected to carry out paid work. This category covers agency workers (including Unitemps), external examiners, consultants and sole traders or self employed.
  2. Honorary Visiting Positions: The award of an Honorary Visiting Position is to recognise an individual’s extensive contribution to the activities of LJMU.

Please use the relevant tiles below for additional information and processes to be followed for each type.
