Statutory Reporting

Academic Planning and Information Services are responsible for the collation of data and the production of timely, valid and accurate student number related statutory returns required by government agencies.

The returns APIS produce are:

  • HESES (Higher Education Students Early Statistics) Survey
  • HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) Student Record
  • ITT (Initial teacher Training) In Year-Record
  • Unistats (Previously the Key information Set)
  • AOR (Aggregate Offshore Return)

APIS are also involved with other departments and the creation of the following returns:

  • Provider Profile (Collaboration with Finance)
  • HESA Staff Return (Collaboration with People and Organisational Development)
  • FInancial Forecast (Collaboration with Finance)

HESES and HESA Student returns used by central government to allocate funding and are also used by other organisations that report on the HE sector. Several other returns are used by external agencies and in the production of the annual university league tables across the UK and the world.

Reconciliation of data is undertaken to ensure consistency between these and other statutory returns (e.g. HESA Student Record to HESES, HESA Student to Staff etc.).
