Appraisals, training and development
Supporting your team's development is an important part of your role as a line manager.
This page brings together resources to help you manage appraisals, set objectives, support staff development and access training for yourself as a line manager.
Appraisals
Every member of staff should have a yearly appraisal carried out towards the end of the academic year between the months of June and August. For new starters, you should ensure an appraisal, including objective setting and any agreed development, is carried out within their first six months, regardless of the length of their probation.
Your role as a line manager
Appraisals provide an opportunity to:
- review performance and progress
- set objectives
- discuss development needs
- consider career aspirations
- agree appropriate development activity
