Marks-to-SIS
What is it?
Marks-to-SIS is a new Canvas functionality. It brings together a number of enhancements that reduce manual work for academics and school admin teams, while improving the accuracy and consistency of assessment data across the university.
What it does
Marks-to-SIS introduces several key improvements:
- Automatic assessment setup in Canvas – validated summative assessments and weightings from the module pro forma in CourseLoop are created automatically in Canvas, saving module leaders and academic staff hours of manual setup.
- One-click grade transfer – grades submitted in Canvas are transferred automatically to the SIS Gradebook, removing the need for manual CSV uploads or duplicate entry.
- Smart student enrolment and filtering – students are automatically enrolled into the correct class sections (e.g. First attempters, REF, DEF, ESR, FRA) and assessment components in Canvas, with a smart filter to simplify navigation for large cohorts.
- Clearer reassessment records – academics can see reassessment components set up automatically in Canvas, removing the need to manually check and recreate failed components.

You should have access to a dedicated set of resources on Microsoft Teams. This includes step-by-step guidance and short videos to support you as you start using Marks-to-SIS, and it remains available afterwards for ongoing reference.
