Submitting on behalf of a student
Tutors and Teachers can submit a coursework assignment on a student's behalf in Canvas. This is intended for exceptional circumstances only. For example, where a student has emailed their work directly to a member of staff and is unable to upload it themselves.
Before using this function, please take extra care to check you are uploading the correct document to the correct student's assignment. Because this function can involve another student's personal information, uploading the wrong document to the wrong student is treated as a data protection issue.
If you use this function:
-
Double-check the student's name and ID before submitting.
-
Only upload a document that has genuinely been shared with you by that student for that assignment.
-
If you make an error. Contact the EdTech team via the helpdesk immediately so the incorrect submission can be removed.
-
If a wrong submission has already been shared with the student it was mistakenly uploaded against and it contains personal information, this must also be reported to the Data Protection team.
Step-by-step instructions for using this function are available in Canvas's official guide: How do I submit an assignment on behalf of a student as an instructor?
For questions about this function, contact the EdTech team via the helpdesk.
