Canvas calendar | Staff guide
What is the Canvas Calendar?
The Canvas Calendar shows course dates and deadlines. Use it to share and check important course events.
What the Calendar shows
- Assignment due dates
- Quiz deadlines
- Discussion end dates
- Your personal to‑do items
Course Calendars
- Every Canvas course has its own calendar.
- Students can view each course calendar.
- Each course has its own calendar. If you add an event in a course, students in that course will see it.
- Students can add personal items. Those items stay private.
How to view Calendars
You can view one course calendar or several at once. This helps students see how work from different courses fits together.

A note on using Calendars
Important note about the timetable
The Canvas Calendar does not show the university timetable or the 'See My Tutor' events.
The university timetable also does not show Canvas deadlines. Check both systems. Please ensure students know to check both systems. Use Canvas Calendar for deadlines and online events and university timetable for class times.
Why can it be confusing?
Students use two different systems:
- Canvas Calendar
- The university timetable
This can be confusing. Tell students to check both the Canvas Calendar and the university timetable. Post a weekly Canvas announcement with session times and places.
