Vice-Chancellor's Awards

This award celebrates outstanding research work where the staff/team have achieved demonstrable outputs, activity, and reputation/esteem.

This award recognises any area of knowledge exchange (apart from Public Engagement – dealt with in separate award) where the staff/team have achieved demonstrable external collaborative activity/project work with associated reputation/esteem.

This award celebrates RKE work where the staff/team have had a demonstrable impact on support, training, and the work environment.

This award celebrates sophisticated work by individuals or teams that has created demonstrable EDI benefits.

This award acknowledges RKE work where the staff/team have had a demonstrable impact on sustainability.

This award celebrates impact (it is not limited to REF Impact Case Studies). Impact stories can include change or transformation in:

• curriculum delivery/development,
• outreach,
• health or well-being,
• policy change,
• social inequalities,
• business development (etc.),
• associated reputation/esteem.

This award recognises outstanding public engagement activity connected to LJMU research. It recognises two-way engagement, where the project is designed and implemented to make a positive contribution to the public and to research.

This can include where non-academic expertise has been embedded as a core approach to the development of research focus and activity, via public participation.

This award celebrates the outstanding work of an individual staff supervisor and can be nominated by any level 8 postgraduate research student(s) at LJMU who wish to recognise excellence in support, training, and development.

This award celebrates post-doctoral and early career researchers who have shown exceptional potential in any field of RKE. The award is targeted at research-only contracted staff, up to 5 years from their first academic appointment, pro-rated with part-time employment.

This award celebrates individuals or research teams who have demonstrated a commitment to Open Research practices.

It aims to reward and celebrate innovative practices that enhance transparency, inclusivity, collegiality, reproducibility, and efficiency in open research practices.    

Nominees (individuals or teams) must be current members of LJMU staff at the closing date for nominations (including research only and part-time staff).

• LJMU staff can nominate for all awards excluding the Excellence - Postgraduate Research Supervisor 2025 award.
• LJMU level 8 Postgraduate Research students (PhD/MPhil/DBA/Prof Doc/EdD etc.) can nominate for the Excellence - Postgraduate Research Supervisor 2025 award.
• LJMU staff are permitted to self-nominate.

• A nominator can make only one nomination per category but may make individual nominations across all categories.
• Each nomination requires a separate submission and detailed case.

• Download and complete the Nomination Form (Word, 156KB), ensuring you have read the information and guidance notes.
• All nominations must be emailed to RKE-VCawards@ljmu.ac.uk.
• Submit your nomination(s) by 5pm, Friday 7 November 2025.

• Dr Martin Brooks, Head of Research Excellence and Research Strategy, will chair the panel reviewing nominations for the Excellence - Impact Story and Public Engagement with Research awards. 
• Prof Julie Sheldon, Dean of the Doctoral Academy, will chair the PGR panel reviewing nominations for the Postgraduate Research Supervisor Award.
• Prof Keith George, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, will chair university panels reviewing nominations for the remaining awards.
• Nominees will be notified via email.

Winners and nominees receiving a commendation from a review panel will be announced at the annual University Research and Knowledge Exchange Conference taking place on Monday 15 December 2025.
