Shortlisting

Shortlisting is the process of identifying candidates from the applicant pool who best meet the essential (and sometimes desirable) criteria set in the Person Specification for the vacancy they are recruiting to. Shortlisting should be carried out by the same people who will form the interview panel and all panel members must be trained in recruitment and selection and Hireserve.

Panel composition requirements can be found in the Recruitment and Selection Policy.

The shortlisting process should be carried out objectively and consistently by comparing the information provided in the application form (and any supporting documentation that has been submitted), with the criteria set out in the person specification to be assessed at application stage. This is made easier as the criteria is set out in the Hiring Manager Portal alongside the application form to facilitate this.
