Disabled Researchers Hub

This Hub gathers key information and resources for disabled staff and postgraduate research students at Liverpool John Moores University, and those considering joining the university.

The Disabled Researchers’ Hub is one of the outputs of the Disabled Researchers’ Network Project led by Dr. Lucinda Matthews-Jones. One of LJMU’s ‘Enhancing Research Culture’ funded projects (2023 to 2025), the DRNP aims to:

  • empower disabled researchers
  • foster community and solidarity
  • challenge the barriers that can prevent disabled, d/Deaf and neurodivergent researchers from thriving

The Research and Innovation Services team is committed to supporting disabled and neurodivergent researchers and breaking down barriers in research culture. Projects like this create a more inclusive research environment, which helps everyone to succeed, which is why we've supported the Disabled Researchers Network through the Enhancing Research Culture fund.

Who is it for?

We work for and with LJMU researchers with lived experience of disability, and researchers who identify with identities or categories such as:

  • chronic illness
  • neurodivergence
  • learning disability
  • mental illness
  • d/Deafness
  • long-term health conditions

This includes those who have not formally disclosed to the university.

We also work with staff whose role involves supporting and developing disabled researchers (including postgraduate research students). This includes:

  • PGR supervisors
  • line managers
  • academics involved in REF preparations
  • professional services staff from a range of areas (for example the Doctoral Academy, Diversity and Inclusion, and Research and Innovation Services)

Our events are open to all LJMU staff and PGRs, regardless of identity and experience, and allies are always welcome.
