Hedy Lamarr

• Lamarr was born in November 1914 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary to a middle-class Jewish family.
• She was one of Hollywood’s most glamorous stars during the 1930s and 40s. 
• Lamarr also pioneered the technology that would one day form the basis for today’s Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth communication systems.
• During World War II, she jointly invented a communication system to prevent enemy interception of radio controlled messages through which missiles were deployed.
• In 1997, Lamarr received a Pioneer Award from The Electronic Frontier Foundation.
• She once said, "Inventions are easy for me to do: I don’t have to work on ideas, they come naturally.”
