Clearing is a great way to secure a place at university. If the student wants to go to university this September, and doesn't have a place on a course for whatever reason, or have changed their mind about where or what they want to study, clearing is for them.

Student Advice and Wellbeing provide professional, responsive and effective support to help our students succeed at university. We aim to empower students to overcome challenges, build their resilience, develop their skills and to make the most of their time at LJMU.

All new LJMU students are guaranteed accommodation in LJMU approved accommodation. All of our approved accommodation has space for students to live there throughout their course of study. We have a bespoke accommodation team, who can help with finding the most suitable accommodation for the student.

We want to make sure that the student starts their university life at LJMU with everything in place, so please check with them that they have the following organised:

• Have they applied for their Student Finance?
• Have they arranged accommodation?
• Have they got additional support in place, if required?

We’ve sure you’re ready to help them settle into their new surroundings, however you don’t need to bring the kitchen sink with you!

Absolutely! All of our halls will be ready to welcome the students with snacks and welcome events. After this, Freshers 2024 kicks off in style and our student union have many events for new and returning students.

Our students have a right to confidentiality. Whilst you want to ensure that they are OK, we cannot disclose information about the student to you due to GDPR. This includes information about how they are performing on their course of study. We will listen to your concerns and give advice where we can, but we will not disclose any information to you about a student, unless it is an emergency situation.

If you think the student is in immediate danger or requires emergency assistance, please call 999.

Student Advice and Wellbeing (SAW) is the department that provides support to our students. It provides professional, responsive and effective support to help our students succeed at LJMU. SAW aims to empower students to overcome challenges. It aims to build their resilience, develop their skills and to make the most of their time at LJMU.

The best thing to do is to encourage the student to contact their personal tutor. Every student is assigned a personal tutor during their induction and they are there to help the student with any course issues that they may have.

Students can book an appointment with their personal tutor.

If the student is moving away from home to start or return to study, it is really important that they register with a doctor (also known as GP – general practitioner). They should do this as soon as they can.

It is normal for a student to experience homesickness during their study and we’re here to help with this. Our accommodation is staffed 24/7/365, so there’s always someone available for a friendly chat. Our Student Advice and Wellbeing department help students talk through their worries and concerns.
