You may be able to borrow money to help pay for university tuition fees and to help with living costs. We have a dedicated support team to help applicants and students with their finances.

If the student has booked accommodation via LJMU, they will receive an email from their selected hall with the details about when they can move in.

All our halls will be ready to welcome the students with snacks and welcome events. After this, Freshers week kicks off in style and our Student Union have many events for new and returning students.

Our students have a right to confidentiality. Whilst you want to ensure that they are OK, we cannot disclose information about the student to you due to GDPR. This includes information about how they are performing on their course of study.

We will listen to your concerns and give advice where we can, but we will not disclose any information to you about a student, unless it is an emergency situation.

If you think the student is in immediate danger or requires emergency assistance, please call 999. 

Student Advice and Wellbeing (SAW) is the department that provides support to our students. They provide professional, responsive and effective support to help our students succeed at LJMU.

SAW aims to empower students to overcome challenges. They aim to build their resilience and develop their skills to help them make the most of their time at LJMU.

The best thing to do is to encourage the student to contact their personal tutor. Every student is assigned a personal tutor during their induction. Their personal tutors are there to help the student with any course issues that they may have.

Students can book an appointment with their personal tutor.

It is normal for a student to experience homesickness during their study and we’re here to help with this. Our accommodation halls are staffed around the clock, so there’s always someone available for a friendly chat.

Our Student Advice and Wellbeing department also help students to talk through their worries and concerns.

If the student is moving away from home to start or return to study, it is important that they register with a doctor (also known as GP – General Practitioner). They should do this as soon as they can.
