Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya (1940-2019)

Bhattacharyya completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1960.
In 1961 he came to the UK for a graduate apprenticeship at Lucas Industries, followed by an MSc and a PhD at the University of Birmingham.
Subsequently moving to the University of Warwick, he founded and lead the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG).
In 2016, WMG was awarded a Regius Chair by the Queen’s Royal Warrant and Bhattacharyya became Regius Professor of Manufacturing.
Many Honours have been bestowed upon him including a Knighthood (2003) and Lordship (2004) from the UK, the Padma Bhushan (2002) from India, and the Great Wall Friendship Award (2017) from China.
