As part of the Bathgate Early Career Launchpad Fund, we are able to offer a range of bursaries designed to help students, regardless of background or personal circumstances, to unlock their potential.
These bursaries are available to individuals applying to or currently studying apprenticeship programmes within the Built Environment.
Access to Apprenticeships Bursary (for LJMU applicants)
This bursary is designed to remove immediate financial barriers for those beginning their apprenticeship journey in Civil Engineering and Construction.
Purpose
Support with costs such as:
- interview clothing
- travel to university or work
- preparatory expenses (for example kit, PPE)
- Bridging the gap before receiving your first salary
Award amount
Up to £2,000
Eligibility criteria
- Applied to an apprenticeship programme in either a Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering or Civil Engineering subject area at Liverpool John Moores University.
- Household income under £30,000 (evidence required).
- Resident in the Northwest or North Wales region.
Apprentice Support Bursary (for current apprentices studying at LJMU)
This bursary is aimed at relieving financial pressures that may affect your ability to fully engage with your apprenticeship.
Purpose
Support with:
- study, travel, or living costs
- digital access costs such as data, equipment and software
- unexpected changes in employment or home circumstances
Award amount
Up to £2,000
Eligibility criteria
- Currently studying an apprenticeship programme in either a Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services Engineering or Civil Engineering subject area at Liverpool John Moores University Household income under £30,000 (evidence required).
- Resident in the Northwest or North Wales region.

We are developing a series of fully funded events focused on helping learners aged 16 to 18 explore potential career pathways in the Built Environment.
The sessions will be tailored for students currently studying relevant subjects such as Construction, Building Services, and Civil Engineering - in FE colleges, Schools and Sixth Forms. Participants will:
- meet professionals and current students in the built environment
- experience a day at university
- discover pathways into apprenticeships and higher education
- get the opportunity to attend industrial site visits
