Success for Team LJMU at BUCS Tournament

Team LJMU has won three events at the British University and Colleges Sport Tournament earlier this month.

The event held at the University of Leeds saw teams from across the UK come together to compete in a variety of sports.

An LJMU record breaking seven teams made the finals for the event, with wins for LJMU’s Women’s 1 in Tennis and LJMU’s Women’s 6 team in Netball, against teams from the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett.

There was also an all LJMU Football final for the Aldi Men’s Northern Conference Trophy title with LJMU Men’s 3 beating Men’s 4, with a 4-3 result.

LJMU Women’s 1 Basketball team, LJMU Women’s 3 Netball team and LJMU Women’s 1 Football team also made the finals.

Sarah Latham, Head of Membership Engagement at John Moores Students’ Union (JMSU), said:

“Last year, we had four BUCS teams that made the finals, and this year we’ve nearly doubled that. It goes to show the ambition our teams have and the commitment from our support staff, which has helped contribute to Team LJMU’s success."

The points from the finals this month will be added to the 24 points that LJMU Men’s Rugby League has already achieved, through the semi-final placing earlier this year, meaning it’s still all to play for in the final BUCS points for the 22/23 cup.

Anna-Marie Brown, Head of Sport at LJMU, said:

“We are thrilled that Team LJMU is going from strength to strength with success from students across a range of different sports. The university has significantly invested in its sporting facilities and opportunities over the past two years and it’s fantastic to see the direct impact of this on the results, at tournaments like BUCS.”
