LJMU celebrates international scholarship students

Prestigious Chevening and GREAT scholarships awarded to seven international students.

Seven international scholarship students have joined LJMU this academic year after receiving the prestigious international Chevening and GREAT scholarships.

The seven individuals Madina, Lara, Patrish, Nabil, Mohamed, Arif and Cecilia have joined LJMU from a range of different countries including Uzbekistan, Iraq, St Lucia, Algeria, Egypt, Bangladesh and Indonesia. The students were celebrated at a recent reception on campus with the International team and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor External Engagements and Partnerships, Dr Aileen Jones.

The students are recipients of the prestigious UK government-sponsored scholarships aimed at international students:

The Chevening Scholarship

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) the scholarship provides fully funded one-year master’s degrees at any UK university.

Chevening Scholars are selected for their leadership potential, academic excellence, and ability to create positive change in their home countries. Scholars join a global network of alumni and are encouraged to use their education to benefit their communities. LJMU this year has four scholars:

  1. Madina from Uzbekistan studying MSc International Transport, Trade and Logistics
  2. Lara from Iraq studying MSc Construction Project Management
  3. Patrish from St Lucia studying MA Strategic People Management and Practice
  4. Nabil from Algeria studying MSc Maritime Energy Efficiency

The GREAT Scholarship

A joint initiative between the British Council and UK universities, funded in partnership with the GREAT Britain Campaign. The GREAT Scholarship typically offers partial funding to students from specific countries, supporting them to study a one-year master’s program in the UK.

GREAT Scholars are chosen for their academic achievements and ambition to contribute to their fields, often in areas important to the UK and the scholar’s home country. LJMU this year has three scholars:

  1. Mohamed from Egypt studying MSc Public Health
  2. Arif from Bangladesh studying MSc Public Health
  3. Cecilia from Indonesia studying MSc Cosmetic Science
