LJMU and Qatar Alumni Association launches at Oryx University
A platform for personal and professional growth has launched at Oryx University in partnership with LJMU.
The LJMU-Qatar Alumni Association launched earlier this month to bring together alumni and foster collaboration, mentorship, and active community engagement among graduates.
A ceremony was held in Doha at Oryx University to mark the launch, with LJMU’s Rob Molloy (Director of Finance), Dr Rebecca Murphy (School of Sport and Exercise Science), Professor Dan Silverstone (School of Law and Justice Studies) and Dr Julia Wang in attendance (International).
Members of the alumni community were also in attendance to celebrate the new association which will unite graduates from both LJMU's UK campus and Oryx University in partnership with LJMU’s Transnational Education programs delivered in the State of Qatar, creating a powerful network of professionals committed to excellence, service, and Qatar's continued growth.

The purpose of this alumni association is simple—but powerful: to reconnect, to contribute, and to continue

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power, on the launch of the alumni association
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power continued:
“This association will be more than just a social group. It will be a living network—a platform for personal and professional growth, for giving back, and for celebrating the achievements of our alumni community.”
Inaugural Alumni Awards
Highlights of the evening included speeches from LJMU graduates Abdulla Khalifa Al-Nasr (LLB Law, UK) and Dr Omar Al-Hassan (MSc Project Management, LJMU Collaborative programme with Oryx University) who were given Alumni recognition awards and the presentation of the inaugural Alumni of the Year Award to Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi.
Partnership Excellence
The association represents the culmination of the longstanding educational partnership between Oryx University and Liverpool John Moores University, which has brought world-class British education to Qatar through Transnational Education programs. This partnership has produced hundreds of graduates who have gone on to leadership positions across Qatar's public and private sectors.
Vision for the Future
The LJMU-Qatar Alumni Association aims to become a cornerstone of professional development and community engagement in Qatar. Through regular networking events, mentorship programs, professional development workshops, and community service initiatives, the association will provide members with opportunities to grow professionally while giving back to society.
The association also plans to collaborate with Oryx University to create pathways for current students, including career guidance sessions, internship opportunities, and industry connections that will help the next generation of graduates achieve their potential.
